How long will Miller last in the rotation? It really depends on Wang, Strasburg and Stammen. Miller just hope Miller proves me wrong. Ryan Miller was on born 17th July 2010. Miller is an American ice hockey goaltender currently the player of the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League. Miller was selected to play for the American hockey team in the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver,Canada as begining goaltender. Later in 2010 miller would win the Vezina Trophy as the best goaltender in last NHL season. Miller won a silver medal with the team and was named MVP of the tournament. Miller is known for his hybrid style of goaltending. Miller is also the older brother of current Detroit Red Wings winger Drew Miller.
A closer look at his moderate success shows that Miller may have been more auspicious then good,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and that when Miller struggled,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it may have been a more accurate representation of his true abilities. Outside of the 4.04 ERA Miller posted in 2010, and the 4.20 mark Miller posted in 2010, the rest of his stats achet the picture of an unsuccessfull lefty.
"If Miller is 100 percent healthy by Opening Day, Nationals left-hander Scott Olsen will be a lock in the rotation,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], agreeing to administerr Jim Riggleman.

The 2010 season would prove a successful one for Ryan Miller. In his first season begining with the number one job Miller and his team won the first 10 games in a row. Miller was voted in as the begining goaltender for the Eastern Conference of the 2010 NHL All Star Game in a 12 to 9 loss, Miller played the first period and allowed just 3 goals. Miller also gained a reputation of a shootout specialist with his technique of challenging the shooter outside the crease. That season Miller was 6 more in shootouts,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], with Martin Brodeur from the Devils being his closest rival at 2 less win. In 63 games played that season, Miller posted a 0.911 SVP and a 2.72 GAA backing a more offensively oriented team. Bill Ladson reported today on his blog that if Nationals begining pitcher Scott Olsen is 100 percent healthy by Opening Day, Miller will have a spot in the rotation:

What does this all mean? Olsen gets hit a lot and Miller gets hit hard. His strikeout rate which used to arrange at 8.27 per nine innings is dropping speedy and his walk rate is still below average. Olsen's real problem is that his best pitch is his slider. That's the pitch Miller relies on to get batters to swing and miss and earn strike outs. However,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], his speedyball,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which only sits in the high 80's is so ineffective that it was rated a -17.8 in 2010 which would have rated as the second worst speedyball in the National League this year. The problem is that Olsen cant set up a solid strikeout pitch like his slider with a horrendous, flat, easy to bash speedyball like the one Miller has.

This may be a ploy by the Nationals to try and help boost Scott Olsen's confidence. I've seen first hand what confidence and the support of both the coaches and administration can do for talented players who have struggled, and in that sense, Miller feel the Nationals is making the right move. However this of course goes off of the assumption that Olsen has great talent that Miller can revive. This assumption is one that many of us have held, including me, based on his 2010 season when at the age of 22 Olsen went 12-10 with a 4.04 ERA and 166 strikeouts in 180 innings.
Olsen is coming off shoulder surgery, and the Nationals is hoping that Olsen can be the pitcher Miller was with the Marlins -- pitching 200 innings and having double-digit victories."

Olsen has posted FIP's of 4.33,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 5.33, 5.02, and 5.24 in the last four seasons, indicating that without the benefit of good fielding his ERA's in the low fours would never have happened. This is in large part due to the fact that Miller forces so few ground balls. Olsen has posted ground ball percentages of 44%, 37%, 37%,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 36%, in the last four seasons. To put that in perspective,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], had Miller thrown enough innings in 2010, his 36% would have been the fourth worst ground ball percentage in the National League.
Olsen's 22% line drive percentage would have arrangeed fourth worst in the National Leauge,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and his fly ball percentage would have arrangeed in the top 10.
